Our Tonga hotel guide aims to help you find the right accommodation for your holidays by offering for free the largest collection of independently taken photographs of Tonga hotels from all around the islands. We have personally visited all hotels in Nukualofa, around Tongatapu and in the Vavau Group and have selected what we consider the best Tonga hotels in all price categories from boutique resorts to budget guesthouses. These are presented in both a hotels directory as well as in a handy location map (see below) so you know exactly where the property is situated. All hotel pages offer detailed independent reviews, pictures of all individual room categories, retail prices, specials and an instant booking facility. To view Tonga hotel locations and individual property pictures, please select a region in the map below - note Tongatapu is the main island with the international airport and capital town of Nuku'alofa, whilst Vavau is renowned for whale watching and sailing. ![]() Our Hotel Guide Tonga hotels are scattered around the islands but there is no real concentration of resorts as with its South Pacific neighbours. This unassuming island nation is so relaxed and laid back and so entwined with its Royalalty that tourism has yet to develop as a commercial force. This makes the islands one of the more interesting places to visit. Ther are of course a couple of large hotels in Nukualofa Town, but these are best suited to visiting businessmen and Tongans returning home for a holiday from overseas. The tiny islands offshore from Tongatapu offer the best opportunites for a relaxing beach holiday and here there are two small deluxe resorts with lovely beaches, a laid back atmosphere, good snorkelling and organized island hopping trips and sightseeing excursions back on the main island. Further north is the Haapai Group which remains very traditional and offers just one small deluxe resort and several locally owned guesthouses. The Vavau Group in the north of the country, about an hours flight from the main island of Tongatapu, has several small hotels and beach resorts. Vavau is great for exploring, has great snorkelling and day cruises around the islands, as well as whale watching between May and October.
